Oil field pumps are a bobbing reminder of our reliance on the fossil fuels that supply most of our society's energy. Increasing releases of carbon dioxide from all sources is changing the global environment at a rapid rate. As the earth's average surface temperature warms we can expect more and increasingly violent storms as well as a greater overall volatility in the global weather systems. These effects are just starting to be seen today.
