flock perching A flock of Red Knots at Delaware Bay, USA. Red Knots are migratory birds capable of flying incredible distances - from the Canadian Arctic to Argentina. In the past, up to eighty percent of the Red Knot population would stop at the Delaware Bay to feast upon the abundant eggs of Horseshoe Crabs. But unreglated harvest of the horseshoes (used for bait) has led to crashes in the breeding crab population. Because crabs are slow to attain maturity, this decline will have a long term impact on both Horseshoe Crabs and Red Knot populations.
