New Carissa in crashing wave

Grounded Freighter New Carissa sitting on sand, Coos Bay, North Spit, USA. The New Carissa ran aground after setting anchor too close to shore. The ship was empty but was carrying 400 thousand gallons of diesel and bunker fuel. An estimated 40 thousand gallons spilled, and rough weather drove much of the oil onto six miles of sandy beach near the town of North Bend on the Oregon coast.
