Danny Glover Joins Ralph Nader at Portland Rose Garden Actor Danny Glover joined former Green Party presidential candidate and consumer advocate Ralph Nader at a citizen's rally at Portland's Rose Garden on Saturday, August 4, 2001. Acting as the event's Master of Ceremonies, Glover credited Paul Robeson and other black activists for inspiring him to take action and promised to lend his support at future citizen rallies. Since the election, Nader has faced criticism from some of his former supporters on the left who argue that he damaged progressive causes by taking votes away from Democratic candidate Al Gore. But with the exception of a dozen or so protesters, the crowd was strongly supportive of Nader and his message. Nader's targets included President George W. Bush and his energy policy, Fortune 500 corporations and news media that bow to advertizing interests. Nader plans to continue his citizen rallies in other U.S. cities. © STEVEN
