flock Pumpkins are known to gather in large flocks in late October. Unfortuanately, this makes them easy prey for Jack O'rippers who in the spirit of the holiday disperse them onto porches throughout the land. Here the jolly pumpkins meet their grizzly end - cut, burned and mashed to a pulp by the first of November. On a more serious note, Pumpkins are related to the cucumbers, gourds and melons; all are members of Curcurbitaceae family. Pumpkins are a good source of beta carotene which the human body converts into vitamin A. Beta carotene is an antioxidant, and the carontenoids may lower the risk of certain cancers.
