"Roadless Rule" May Become Law, Protecting National Forest Land Chaney Road clearcut. A Salvage Rider Coos County BLM administered sale. My wife and I stood above a cascade looking at the far wall of the canyon cloaked in some of the most beautiful old growth forest we had ever seen and decided we could live in Coos County. We had doubts because of the incredible amount of cutting that has denuded all but a few percent of the original old growth. We did not know at the time that a year before a timber sale had been scheduled for what we were seeing. The sale did not go through at the time because of a Bald Eagle nest between the two sale units. The "salvage rider," a singularly pernicious piece of legislation, released these sale units and deemed a huge number of illegal sales legal with the stroke of a pen.
