My car in landslide My car in landslide off 12 Mile Road in Coos County,, Oregon. This was a case where I was driving about ten miles an hour faster than I should have on a small logging road. Unfortunately, some kind soul had knocked down and failed to replace the flagging that warned of the missing section of road . This is one of the many winter landslides that happened in 1996. Many of these slides occured in developed areas or areas which were clearcut in the last ten years. Soil stability is reduced as the remaining roots rot out, and with heavy winter rains, hillsides can slip and cause major slides.
