adult female eating grass Bighorn Sheep are ideally suited for Rocky Mountain National Park: the halves of their hooves separate, allowing them to cling to rocky slopes that would send their predators tumbling. Bighorn Sheep are known for their breeding contests. During the rutting season, male bighorns compete for mates with spectactular horn crashing charges: They rear up on their hind legs, charge toward each other and bang their huge horns together with a loud crack. Diseases of domestic sheep are adversely affecting some bighorn populations.
