Yellow-rumped Warbler - - (Dendroica coronata)

Photography from Stockpix.com

Image # 1451

Winter plumage taking flight

Yellow-rumped Warbler in winter plumage at Tuckerton Marsh in New Jersey. Yellow-rumped Warblers (aka "butter butts") winter farther north than any other American Wood Warbler. One reason they are able to survive northern winters is their ability to digest waxy fruits. Berries of the wax myrtle are such a winter staple food that the Myrtle race of the Yellow-rumped Warbler was named after the tree.
