Rufous Hummingbird - - (Selasphorus rufus)

Photography from Stockpix.com

Image # 4183

adult male perching

Adult male Rufous Hummingbird perching at Coyote Creek State Park in New Mexico. Rufous Hummingbirds are extremely aggressive in defending concentrated food sources and can bully Broad-tailed Hummingbirds as well as other much larger and heavier species. Males migrate north as early as February on the Oregon coast, but most hummers leave by early summer, heading to flower patches in the Southern Rockies.
